German MP: The "might of the law" must prevail, not the "law of the mighty"

"We are also remembering the lessons we learned from these events, and which we should still be learning today, including that the "might of the law" must prevail, not the "law of the mighty" ", the German MP mentioned during the session dedicated to the Crimean Crisis and the situation in the Ukraine.

Franz Tennes stressed that the actions of the Russian Federation vis-à-vis Ukraine are unacceptable and violate international law. ‘Russia’s conduct is a violation of international law and order. Until recently, one could not even imagine such a situation in Europe. These actions of Russia are not acceptable,’ he stated.

The German MP also pointed out that, if Russia continues to escalate the situation, the FRG and other states and organisations ‘will stand by to impose further restrictive measures.’

He emphasised the need to de-escalate the situation in order to avoid destabilisation of Ukraine or ‘even some kind of warfare’, as well as getting Russia to return to the table of negotiations.

‘It is imperative that Russia should return to the table of international negotiations so that Russia realise that the post-Cold War order based on cooperation, common security in Europe, transparency, and mutual confidence building is interests of everyone, including Russia,’ Franz Tennes said.
