After its defeat in Ukraine, Russian dependence on China increases manifold, - Dr. C.Raja Mohan
If Russia wins the war in Ukraine, it will give power to China, which has territorial claims to Japan, India, Vietnam and other countries. And this will lead to deterioration of the overall situation not only in Europe, in Asia as well.
Such an opinion was expressed by Dr. Ch. Raja Mohan, Senior Fellow, Asia Society Policy Institute in New Delhi, at the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum, established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
Instead, he said, if Russia were to lose the war, its dependence on Chine would deepen still more.
“It is obvious to us that what is happening in Ukraine now does affect the situation in Asia. In their attempts to contain Russia, Europeans held different views towards China. This poses massive problems to us, as we wish and want the principle of sovereignty and territorial integrity be held in high respect, so that Europe can turn back to its role of ensuring full-scale security across the world and assisting to deter Chinese expansionism,” said Dr. Mohan.
He also stated that although India has not unequivocably voiced its condemnation of Russian aggression, his country values and cherishes territorial independence, inviolability of borders and sovereignty, and considers these to be fundamental issues.
According to the expert, the current situation is further complicated by the fact that India has very developed defense relations with Moscow, and they are critical for containing aggression from China, since it claims territories of India.
Raja Mohan wished Ukraine victory and the preservation of its historical sovereignty, as this “will assist the efforts to restrain Chinese expansion.”
Noteworthy, the 15th annual Kyiv security forum “For Our and Your Freedom / Fighting for NATO” will be held on May 25-26, 2023, with the participation of well-known international figures. In particular, at the Forum, the KSF Security Council will be formed and a policy document will be adopted with recommendations for the NATO summit in Vilnius to be held this July.
