A Columbia University professor dispelled fears that the West will scale down its support for Ukraine

In Ukraine, there are certain fears about a possible decrease in the support level from the West in general and from the United States in particular, however, the current President Joe Biden Administration is determined to disallow this from happening.

Amb. Stephen Sestanovich, Professor at Columbia University, expressed this opinion at the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum, established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

According to him, these fears are groundless and the Ukrainians should, on the contrary, press harder for their support at the NATO summit in Vilnius.

“According to mass media, the Presidential Administration is hesitant and uncertain. Moreover, that the Republicans oppose the idea supporting Ukraine. Furthermore, that the left wing of the Democratic Party has not clearly outlined their standpoint. You may have heard what Tucker Carlson says, glorifying Vladimir Putin. This is a highly misleading picture, and it further confuses us. It fails to represent any reality, the Professor assured.

Amb. Sestanovich also emphasized that in the event of Ukraine’s defeat, Joe Biden’s Administration will suffer a great blow, and the Republicans will “simply crucify the president."

“The administration is determined to prevent this course of event. You see, every time when decisions are taken about new weapons deliveries, there are a lot of delays and hesitations, but in the end, the Administration is on the right track,’ he said.

The Professor also cited another example, when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suggested that there was simply a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia. Immediately afterward, the level of Mr DeSantis support began to shrink, and his chances for presidency candidacy decreased dramatically.

“No matter what, Ukraine won’t lose support. Indeed, some Republicans say that Ukraine receives too much support, maybe much less is needed. Still, such deliberations do not affect political leaders in either the Republican or the Democratic Party,” Professor Sestanovich concluded.

Noteworthy, the 15th annual Kyiv security forum “For Our and Your Freedom/ Fighting for NATO” will be held on May 25-26, 2023, with the participation of well-known international figures. In particular, at the Forum, the KSF Security Council will be formed and a policy document will be adopted with recommendations for the NATO summit in Vilnius to be held this July.
