Anna Fotyga: The gold standard of Ukraine’s security is membership in NATO
The vast majority of Ukrainians support Ukraine’s accession to NATO, there are no more disagreements on this issue.
This was stated by Anna Fotyga, a member of the European Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland in 2006-07 at the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum, established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation.
“We were offered a study conducted by the International Republican Institute, it was presented by a well-known expert, and the results of this study indicate that the vast majority of Ukrainians, regardless of the region supports joining NATO – and this is a novelty, because there were territorial differences earlier,” she said.
Anna Fotyga noted that all the concepts developed by international experts testify to that “the gold standard of security for Ukraine is its membership in NATO.”
“This means that we must finally make true the promise of the Bucharest Summit to Ukraine, that Ukraine will join NATO,” she emphasized.
According to Anna Fotyga, the Ukrainian army is currently the most experienced one that has participated in modern military operations.
“Therefore, our objective should be to provide the equipment that enables Ukraine to liberate successfully all its territories within internationally recognized borders. This is necessary not only for security of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but for security of us all. We need to make Ukraine part of NATO as soon as possible,” she emphasized.
Noteworthy, the 15th annual Kyiv security forum “For Our and Your Freedom/ Fighting for NATO” will be held on May 25-26, 2023, with the participation of well-known international figures. In particular, at the Forum, the KSF Security Council will be formed and a policy document will be adopted with recommendations for the NATO summit in Vilnius to be held this July.
