The financial and economic components will allow Ukraine to equilibrate the issue of political and military security.

This was emphasized by Natalie Yaresko, Chairperson of the Aspen Institute Kyiv Supervisory Board, Minister of Finance of Ukraine in 2014-16,  at the 15th annual Kyiv Security Forum, established by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk “Open Ukraine” Foundation.

“It is very important to ensure economic and financial security, because the future of any state lies not only in the domain of military or political security, that we definitely need. Today we must start contemplating all serious tasks about the recovery and reconstruction of this country. This should start with what is the essence of the social contract between a government and citizens, and how such a relationship may look like in future, and the way we ought to enhance our democracy, the democracy that people die for every day,” she said.

The ex-minister emphasized the importance of developing state policy guidelines to understand how to bring back to Ukraine the maximum number of those from among some 8 million refugees, because their return will facilitate the economic potential and revival of this country.

Natalie Yaresko emphasized that the reconstruction of this country must be carried out in strict compliance with the EU standards.

“This needs to be done in a “green way”, leaving behind the Soviet legacy or environmental pollution.” The best “green” practices may arrive to Ukraine, and we should work on implementing this potential,” the expert emphasized.

Natalie Yaresko emphasized that Ukraine has proved to the whole world its willingness to live in line with the best European and NATO standards.

“And we ought to ensure our security in NATO and globally solely if we attain financial and economic security. And to this purpose we need to work today, to develop this vision in order to have the potential to implement these changes,” she summarized.

The Kyiv Security Forum, established by Arseniy Yatsenyuk’s “Open Ukraine” Foundation, is the main platform in our country to discuss issues of war and peace, national and global security.
