Only NATO can guarantee Ukraine's security, - Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishyna

Ukraine will be able to guarantee its own security only by becoming a NATO member.

This was stated by the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna during the Kyiv Security Forum, founded by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation “Open Ukraine”.

“We believe there is no alternative to the security alliance, which today is called the North Atlantic Alliance,” she said.

Stefanishyna reported that because of the above the decision was taken to turn to the allies to consider the need to invite Ukraine into the alliance as single option for restoring stability, first and foremost, in Europe.

“We are fully aware of the fact that this decision and address were made not to end this war, nor to save Ukraine. This is a strategic decision for the post-war period,” she emphasized.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that, despite ongoing discussion, none of the NATO countries said “no” to Ukraine.

Olga Stefanishyna reported that the authorities are now focused on implementing decisions of the NATO summit in Bucharest, with the Summit confirming again that Ukraine will become a member of the Alliance and that Ukraine’s application will be officially considered.

“Our biggest task is to implement this decision at the NATO summit in Vilnius, to be held next July,” she said.
