Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur: "In Recent Years, Ukraine has Undergone Serious Changes for the Better"

19 June 2020, 15:09

"Ukraine is the struggle line for freedom in Europe," Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, co-chair of the Ukrainian Congressional Caucus said.

"We continue to support the desire for freedom in Ukraine and throughout Europe. And you are part of this historical struggle," she said.

Marcy Kaptur noted that despite Russia's aggression, Ukraine has managed to strengthen democratic institutions, and in recent years the country has undergone serious changes for the better.

She also stated that recognizing Ukraine as NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner will significantly strengthen cooperation with the Alliance.

"I hope that in time we will see Ukraine as a NATO member," the Congresswoman emphasized.

Commenting on the letter to the Secretary of State that urged to apply sanctions on Russian entities should they engage in pipelaying of the infamous Nord Stream 2, Marcy Captur said that U.S. Congressmen want to help ensure the energy security of Ukraine and the entire European continent.

"The United States itself once fought for its energy independence, and we understand very well what energy dependence is and what it leads to politically within the country. That's why the letter we sent to the US State Department calls for sanctions on the construction of the pipeline if Russia continues to pipelay," she said.
