Vitaliy Moroz: Elections have demonstrated vulnerability of Ukraine's information security

12 April 2019, 22:29

The head of new media Internews Ukraine Mr. Vitaliy Moroz believes that technology has significantly influenced the presidential elections in Ukraine. He stated this during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

"Elections in Ukraine were "hacked" with the help of technology. And this is not just about external players. It's more about internal players," Mr. Moroz said.

He explained that traditionally elections are considered to be about rational arguments, respect for each other in the discussion. But it works offline. When it comes to "online", here the entertainment factor comes to the foreground.
"From this point of view, information security in Ukraine is quite vulnerable, because elections have shown: entertainment plays a much bigger role than national debates. Because the reality is not correct enough for many users of the network," Mr. Moroz believes.

He added that in this sense social networks had a significant impact on elections in Ukraine. Mr. Moroz stressed that this is a challenge, and technology companies, the government as well as civil society must respond to it together.
