Maxym Eristavi: Journalism to be the best way to combat disinformation

12 April 2019, 16:18

Mr. Maxym Eristavi, the Nonresident Research Fellow of the Atlantic Council (Czech Republic) believes that journalism trusted by society is the best way to deal with disinformation. He said this during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

"Problems are the lack of information, the lack of sources which have confidence, lack of journalism. It is not a coincidence that in the countries most affected by disinformation, - the United States, Ukraine - the largest deficit of journalism that has confidence exists," Mr. Eristavi said.

He added that professional journalists operate with proven facts, and even if someone does not like the fact, that does not mean that the journalist has poorly done the work. On the other hand, victims of disinformation are often people who already have some negative emotions and are therefore ready to believe even the fictitious information.
