Yevhen Pikalov: All files of the MH17 crash to be trialed by the Dutch Court

After the completion of the pre-trial investigation, the Ukrainian law enforcers will transfer all files regarding the crash of the Malaysian Boeing-777, flight MH17, to the Court in the Netherlands. This was announced by the Head of the Main Department for International Legal Cooperation of the Prosecutor General's Office Mr. Yevhen Pikalov during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“We have identified about a hundred people who were involved in this crime. The investigation is almost complete. The trial will take place in the Netherlands. If we identify a citizen of Ukraine within the framework of a criminal investigation inside the country, - we will transfer these files to a Dutch court. The case for each person will be transferred to the Netherlands as part of a separate episode,” he noted.

Mr. Pikalov explained the further proceedings options: "If the suspect is hiding in Russia or in other countries, then individual may be trialled in absentia, and in the case of detention - to carry out the sentence. Or the Netherlands can send an appeal to Russia to execute a court sentence on its territory. If the suspect is a citizen of Ukraine and is detained in Ukraine, the person will take part in court sessions in the Netherlands via video conferencing or other technical means. The person will be punished in Ukraine."
