Marie Yovanovitch: We expect the 2d round of elections on April 21 to be held peaceful as well

11 April 2019, 19:16

The U.S., together with the Ukrainian people, expect the expression of will on April 21 will be peaceful and competitive - just like during the first round of presidential elections.

This was stated by the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Mrs. Marie Yovanovitch during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“The first round was competitive, passed peacefully, and reflected the vision of the Ukrainian people. Ukraine and the United States are waiting for a repetition of this process on April 21,” H.E. Ambassador said.

Mrs. Marie Yovanovitch noted that official Washington does not support any candidate, but supports "the rule of law, democracy, security and the goals of the Ukrainian people."

“The population of Ukraine wants the government to work for Ukrainians, respect their rights, dignity and treat citizens within the framework of the law. Ukrainians wants the conflict in the Donbas to be completed peacefully. We work with Ukrainian and international partners to achieve these goals, and we will do this hereafter,” H.E. Ambassador said.
