Petro Poroshenko: Nord Stream-2 construction is not closed issue yet
Despite the fact that the United States could not convince Germany to abandon plans to build the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, the issue of its construction has not been resolved yet. This was stated by President Petro Poroshenko during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
“The situation with our opposition to the Nord Stream-2 is not exactly closed yet. This is definitely not a defeat. But any mistake in this matter, including due to incompetence, will very quickly lead to defeat,” he noted.
According to Poroshenko, Ukraine has reasonable arguments in order to ensure further gas transit from Russia. In addition, he leaves open the possibility of that the U.S. position could change.
“The only thing that the U.S. Secretary of State Mr. Pompeo had said is that as of April 10, they are not ready to impose sanctions immediately. And what will happen on April 12, - no one knows. And the mechanism for negotiations with European partners is not only sanctions. And effective actions of Ukraine, including in ensuring independence and energy security, can also bring an appropriate result,” he stressed.
