Amanda Paul: EU needs to do more to strengthen Ukraine's defense capability

Senior Policy Analyst at the European Policy Centre, Mrs. Amanda Paul believes that the European Union should do more for Ukraine in order to help it in defending itself from Russia's aggression. She said this during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“What worries me is Europe's response, and not only of Europe, but of the world in whole, to the incident in the Kerch Strait, in the Sea of Azov, which was extremely weak and insufficient for such a serious incident,” she noted.

Mrs. Paul stressed that in this case, on the one hand, there should be tougher steps against Russia, including strengthening individual sanctions against officials, and on the other, Ukraine should be provided with assistance.

“We need to do more to protect Ukraine, or to make it more sustainable in terms of opportunities to protect itself, both on land and at sea,” she said.
