11 April 2019, 13:25

Ukraine will be able to provide security only with the immutability of the course on joining NATO and continuation of defence sector reform and strengthening of the Army, Stepan Poltorak, Minister of Defence of Ukraine believes.

He said this during the 12th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“There are two ways that can ensure our safety. The first is the immutability of the course towards joining NATO, which is enshrined in the Constitution. After all, this is a club that provides security to all countries belonging to the Alliance ... the second factor is the choice of priorities for building an invincible army as well as defence reform,” the Minister emphasized.

According to Poltorak, meanwhile, defence reform continues successfully in Ukraine. “This is the most effective reform, as it gives the opportunity to experience immediately on the battlefield what we are planning,” he noted.

The Minister underlined that among the reform priorities for the current year there is the issue of military management, defence planning, defence procurement.
