David Samuels: Future of Ukraine is Freedom

Ukraine will become strong if it provides its citizens with freedom and accepts the truth. David Samuels, a co-author at the New York Times Magazine (U.S.), expressed this opinion at the 11^th Kyiv Security Forum in Kyiv, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine.

“What kind of future can Russia under Vladimir Putin’s rule offer to its citizens? It offers war, fear, lies. I hope and believe that Ukraine’s strength lies in the ability to offer something better. Ukraine should offer freedom of thought, freedom of mind, fearless attitude to the truth: both the truth of the past and the present truth, the opportunity to celebrate the true heroes of Ukraine: not only the heroes of the past, but also the heroes of science, and doctors,” he believes.

Mr.Samuels stressed that Ukrainians showed their heroism every day and thanked them for this.

The annual international event Kyiv Security Forum was launched by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine in 2007 as a platform for high-level discussions on the current issues in Europe and the Black Sea region. The Forum aims at increasing security cooperation between the EU and the Black Sea region, raising awareness about regional developments among key regional players, promoting the role of independent and non-governmental actors in setting the security agenda in Europe.
