Peter Balazs: There will be no peace while there are those not agreeing with international status quo
While in the international arena there are the forces that disagree with the current state of affairs, it would be difficult to talk about peace. This is the opinion by Peter Balazs, the Director of the Center for European Neighborhood Studies at Central European University, European Commissioner for Regional Policy (2004), expressed during the 11th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine.
“There will be no peace while there are those actors on the international scene who disagree with the status quo and who want to change it, along with borders, countries, territories, the balance of power, and agreements,” he believes.
This was the comment of Mr.Balazs on the statement by Rose Gottemoeller, the NATO Deputy Secretary General, that, currently, the world faced the situation where there was neither peace nor war.
He stressed that the situation when shots are fired on a daily basis and people are killed definitely cannot be called ‘peace’.

The Forum aims at increasing security cooperation between the EU and the Black Sea region, raising awareness about regional developments among key regional players, promoting the role of independent and non-governmental actors in setting the security agenda in Europe.
The event is being held with the support of NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine, the German Marshall Fund, The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, The Royal Institute of International Relations, Chatham House (UK), and The Regional Representative Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine.
