Arsen Avakov: We can not compromise in what deprives us independence

13 April 2018, 12:41

Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov calls any compromises unacceptable for Ukraine, which questions independence somehow. He stated this during the 11th Kyiv Security Forum, organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

"We have no alternative to compromises that force us to deprive us of any part of our independence. We do not have the opportunity to swim in illusions and pretend that the Budapest Memorandum, which was guaranteed to us by great powers, is a kind of sham," he stressed.
Avakov noted that he himself witnessed how, after the beginning of Russian aggression, the leaders of the great powers asked the authorities of Ukraine not to provoke Putin and to behave more calmly.
"And this "calmly" cost us dramatically high price - the occupied Crimea, occupied parts of the Donetsk and Luhansk Regions", - the Minister emphasized.
In this regard, he criticized foreign companies that are simultaneously trying to conduct business with Ukraine and Russia.
Avakov reminded that now there are military forces, parts of the Russian army, with a total of 35,000 military personnel in the Donbas.
He also said that a criminal proceeding has been opened concerning the international negative impact of an aggressor on Ukraine's information space.
According to him, taking into account the upcoming elections, it is very important for Ukraine to maintain internal stability at the moment.
