Rose Gottemoeller: NATO wants to Learn from Ukraine how to Counter Hybrid Threats
The long-term experience of Ukraine in counting hybrid threats from Russia is very valuable to NATO. Rose Gottemoeller, the NATO Deputy Secretary General, stated this during the 11th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine.
“I would like to say how much NATO is looking forward to learning from your experience. We were very pleased that the joint platform of Ukraine and NATO for countering hybrid threats was established last year. This is an important element of how NATO could learn from you,” Goettemoeller noted.
She emphasized that hybrid threats occurred all around the world today, including the EU countries. And that is why it is important to cooperate in crisis management, energy security, and counteracting information provocations.
The NATO Deputy Secretary General added that NATO expected Ukraine to include all basic democratic principles in the final version of the draft law on national security.

The annual international event Kyiv Security Forum was launched by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine in 2007 as a platform for high-level discussions on the current issues in Europe and the Black Sea region. The Forum aims at increasing security cooperation between the EU and the Black Sea region, raising awareness about regional developments among key regional players, promoting the role of independent and non-governmental actors in setting the security agenda in Europe.
The event is being held with the support of NATO Information and Documentation Center in Ukraine, the German Marshall Fund, The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, The Royal Institute of International Relations, Chatham House (UK), and The Regional Representative Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Ukraine.
