Roman Waschuk: Ukraine should Document All Cases of Human Rights Violations by Russia
It is necessary to document and publish quarterly reports on human rights violations in the Crimea and in Donbas, as well as the stories of specific people. This opinion was expressed by Roman Waschuk, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine, during the 11th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine.
“It is possible to do something when relevant information from inside of the country concerning the Crimea and Donbas is provided, and the experience of people living there is represented. Ukraine should document, emphasize and cover this information on the international scene. The stories of people coming from there should be recorded, published and distributed,” he stressed.
The Ambassador added that, in addition to aiding Ukraine in ensuring its foreign security, it should be ensured that people feel safe inside the country. According to him, Canada, as well as other countries, is ready to help in this, but Ukraine should take the appropriate steps”.
“We should fulfill our homework: to provide the necessary structure, to gather the necessary evidence on which the respective plan would be based”, Mr.Waschuk stressed.
