In Europe Trump is regarded as bigger threat to EU than Putin - Rebecca Harms

06 April 2017, 17:21

“In Europe Trump is regarded as the bigger threat to EU than Putin”, Rebecca Harms, Member of the European Parliament, stated during the 10th Kyiv Security Forum held by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Foundation Open Ukraine.

“Until recently, many in Europe did not see a threat to the EU in Putin, as we now see it in Trump. The latter is generally considered as a bigger threat to the EU than Putin. This is a result of the situation in the U.S.-European relations after Trump came to power”, Rebecca Harms noted.

Additionally, she noted that today the EU remains a union based on the voluntary wish of all its participants, which have certain agreements and contracts among them. And if other countries want to take such a decision, as the UK took and leave the EU, they have that right.

At the same time, she noted that, after Brexit, many in the EU had realized what the common Europe was. And today many in the EU have the understanding that the EU means prosperity and security and what should be done in order to strengthen them.
