Hennadiy Kovalenko: «In confronting the aggressor Ukraine should rely only on its own»

Current situation around Ukraine shows that in confronting the aggressor Ukraine should rely only on its own. It was stated during the 5^th Kyiv Security Forum for Youth, organized by Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation, by the representative of the General Staff of Ukraine Colonel Hennadiy Kovalenko.

«Today a very difficult military and political situation developed around Ukraine. Our country is confronting to a well-organized military organization all key positions of that are occupied by Russian military personnel. Moreover, the Kremlin understands that the West will not send troops to Ukraine and therefore relax and act aggressively. In such circumstances, we must realize that we have to rely only on our own and make every effort to strengthen our defense. Special attention should be given to building a modern efficient Ukrainian Army», - the representative of the General Staff said.

Also, Hennadiy Kovalenko added that very important in this process is close military and military-technical cooperation with leading international organizations and partners, including:  

development of military and political dialogue at the strategic level;

development of the partnership with NATO and EU;

development of relations with its neighbors and strategic partners;

participation in the NATO Response Force, EU Battle Group as well as other regional initiatives;

increased participation in regional organizations, projects, and initiatives;

participation in peacekeeping operations.
