Alain Le Roy: The EU sanctions against Russia depend on the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements

The continuation of the EU economic sanctions against Russia will be brought about in accordance with the fulfillment by the latter of its obligations under the Minsk agreements, said Alain Le Roy, the Secretary General of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union in a video message during the 8th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“We are making diplomatic efforts to find a peaceful solution of the conflict and to ensure the implementation of the Minsk agreements. The continuation of the EU economic sanctions is taking place absolutely in accordance with the Minsk agreements,” – he said.

Alain Le Roy added that the deepening of political association and economic integration of Ukraine with the EU “demands adherence to our European values, in spite of all the difficulties we face, and this is what the EU-Ukraine summit a month ago demonstrated”.

He also stressed that the EU would continue to support Ukraine, territorial integrity of which had been violated during the times of ordeal. “We are ready to support Ukraine in these hard times. We believe in peaceful settlement of international disputes. We are convinced that respect for international law is the only way to lasting peace,” – he stressed.

The EU will continue to support the ongoing reforms in Ukraine as well, assured the Secretary General of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union.
