Kalman Mizsei: Ukraine has not yet carried out the critical mass of reforms
The current government of Ukraine is the most reformative in its history, but till now a critical mass of reforms in the country is still pending, said Kalman Mizsei, the chairman of the EU advisory mission on civil security sector reform in Ukraine during the 8th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.
“No, it would be wrong to say that there is no progress, but still it is not enough. So far, the critical mass of reforms is not achieved,” – he said.
In this context, Kalman Mizsei drew attention to the necessity of a constitutional reform together with an important legislative package on reforming the Interior Ministry. Also, in his opinion, what has been done in a civil security sector is not enough.
K.Mizsei noted that many positive changes have been made in the prosecution system, but it has to be legally fixed and a social control over that body shall be improved as well. Moreover, in his opinion, the number of prosecutors should also be reduced.
The Chairman of the EU advisory mission on a civil security sector reform in Ukraine said that it was “strategically important” that the reform of the civil service was “rapidly and radically accelerated”. Special attention in this area should be paid to fighting corruption.
