Vice-President of the European Parliament: The EU should show Ukraine a clear European perspective

29 May 2015, 10:31

The EU should develop a closer relationship with Ukraine and demonstrate it a clear European perspective, said Richard Charnetsky, Deputy head of the European Parliament, Minister for European Integration of Poland (1997-1999), during the 8th Kyiv Security Forum organized by the Arseniy Yatsenyuk Open Ukraine Foundation.

“In my opinion, our obligations, the commitments of the European Union lie in having closer relations with Ukraine and showing it a clear European perspective,” – he said.

Having this in view, Vice President of the European Parliament announced the opening in early June of his office in Kiev, which has to support this idea. “Only one member of the European Parliament will have its office outside the territory of the European Union. My office will be located at Mazepy street, 1. For me it is a political demonstration of solidarity both my personal, and the Polish, and of the EU,” – said R. Charnetsky.

Specifically he focused the attention on the need of a powerful European response to Russian propaganda, which is distorting the events in Ukraine.
