President of the Estonian Parliament: The conflict in Ukraine is a war between democracy and autocracy

29 May 2015, 10:09

President of the Estonian Parliament Eiki Nestor recognizes that not all European politicians dare to call the events in Eastern Ukraine a war.

“Politicians in Ukraine, Estonia, Lithuania maybe not so seasoned, but we are not afraid to use words like ‘war’. On the other hand, we know politicians in Europe who do not like such harsh words,” – said Eiki Nestor, speaking at the 8th Kyiv Security Forum.

“If we speak frankly about Ukraine, it is a war. This is absence of peace between democracy and autocracy, between free mass media and those that brainwash their citizens, between free people and those who choose the fate of slaves,” – the Estonian politician added.

Eiki Nestor said that today Russia is trying to build up new frontiers in Europe and Estonia at its time has also felt pressure from the eastern neighbor.

“If we did not join the EU and NATO, we would be a small country, we would become nothing, following the wind, and these millstones would crunch us,” – he said.
