
Petras VAITIEKŪNAS
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Ukraine Amb. Vaitiekūnas graduated from Vilnius University, Department of Theoretical Physics. Also he studied in the Institute of Physics, Academy of Science of the Republic of Lithuania, Ph. D. studies and in George C. Marshall European Centre for Security Studies, College of Strategic Studies and Defence Economics, Germany. In 1976-1990 he worked as scientific researcher, Institute of Physics, Academy of Science of the Republic of Lithuania. In 1990-1992 Amb. Vaitiekūnas was Member of Parliament, Deputy Supreme Council – the Reconstituent Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. For 5 years Amb. Vaitiekūnas was Senior Assistant for Foreign Affairs to the President of the Republic of Lithuania and one year was Head of the Central European Division, Political Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 1998-1999 Amb. Vaitiekūnas was Adviser to the Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During 1999-2004 Mr. Vaitiekūnas was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Latvia . In 2004 - Adviser to the President of the Republic of Lithuania and in 2004-2005 Ambassador at Large, Foreign Policy and Analysis Planning Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs . In 2005-2006 - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to the Republic of Belarus, in 2006-2008 Amb. Vaitiekūnas was Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, in 2008 Ambassador in Large, Policy Planning Department, MFA and in 2008-2009 - Counsellor to the Chairman of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania. Since 2010 Mr. Vaitiekūnas is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Lithuania to Ukraine
