
Dr. Nils SCHMID
Nils Schmid has been a member of the German Bundestag for the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) since September 2017. He serves as a member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs. Since 2018, he is the Spokesman on Foreign Affairs of the SPD Parliamentary Group.
From 1997 to 2017, Nils Schmid was a member of State Parliament of Baden-Wurttemberg. In 2006, his party elected him as Deputy Chairman of the SPD Parliamentary Group. In 2009, he became Chairman of the SPD Baden-Wurttemberg. From 2011 to 2016, he served as Minister of Finance and Economy and as Deputy Minister President of Baden-Wurttemberg. After securing a mandate for the Bundestag in the German federal elections in 2017, he resigned his seat in the State Parliament.
He served as a member of the supervisory board of the Energie Baden-Württemberg AG (EnBW), Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) and Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW).
Nils Schmid graduated in Law Studies from the University of Tübingen in 1999. In 2006, He completed his dissertation on “Public Facility Management, Public Debt, and Public Property” with summa cum laude.
Nils Schmid was born on 11 July 1973. He is married to Tülây Schmid; the couple has two children.
