Jan PIEKLO
Since September 2016 – Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Poland to Ukraine.
Since May 2005 he was director of PAUCI (Poland America Ukraine Cooperation Initiative then transformed to the Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Foundation) which managed the trans-border projects in Ukraine, Moldova, Armenia and Georgia. Till May 2005 he worked as a program director for ZNAK Foundation in Krakow, supervising international programs and heading the Bridges to the East Institute.
As a journalist, he covered the Romanian Revolution and conflict in the former Yugoslavia. He worked for the Polish and international media. As a conflict resolution journalism trainer, regional security expert and media consultant he co-operated with the European Journalism Centre, Rutgers University of New Jersey, MU Columbia School of Journalism, Jagiellonian University of Krakow, IREX Pro Media, Groeningen University and other institutions. Till the end of 1990 he was an editor of “Tygodnik Powszechny”, a leading weekly of the Polish anti-Communist opposition. From 1982 to 1988 he contributed to the printed in conspiracy clandestine Solidarity publications. Until December 13, 1981, he was with “Gazeta Krakowska”, a Krakow daily, working as an editor at the news desk
April 1992 – completed the East Central European Media Development Project coordinated by the School of Journalism and the Center for the International Programs and Studies of University of Missouri in Columbia, USA;
September 1991 – completed the Advanced International Program "Journalism and Democracy" at the Department of Further Education of Journalists, FOJO, University College of Kalmar and the Department of Journalism, Media and Communication, Stockholm University;
March - September 1990 - completed a six-month career-development course in English language journalism, administered by the Center for the Foreign Journalists in Reston, Virginia, USA;
1972-1977 – studied history of Polish language and literature at Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland, received MA from Polish philology and literature.
