Mustafa DZHEMILEV

MUSTAFA DZHEMILEV is Ukrainian political and social figure of a Crimean Tatar origin; he is a leader of the Crimean Tatar National Movement; a former Soviet dissident; a member of the Ukrainian Parliament as part of «Batkivschyna». He was prisoner for 15 years for anti-soviet activity (1966-1967, 1969-1972, 1974-1975, 1975-1976, 1979-1982, 1983-1986). Mustafa is a world-wide known human rights activist and the founder of the Initiative group for human rights protection in the USSR.

Since independence of Ukraine he has become an activist of the Ukrainian political life. He has been a member of the Ukrainian Parliament since 1998; author of several dozen of laws; former Chairman of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People (1991-2013); member of the Verkhona Rada Committee for human rights, ethnic minorities and interethnic relations (since 1998); head of Subcommittee for deported people, ethnic minorities and victims of political repressions (September 2,2003-June 15, 2007); head of Subcommittee for ethno policy, rights of indigenous people and national minorities of Ukraine (since December 2012). During the Crimean crisis Mr. Dzhemilev was for integrity of the Ukrainian borders and didn’t recognize the «referendum».

Mustafa Dzhemilev is a supporter of the nonviolence principles and solidarity with the rights of enslaved people and human rights protection.

He is standing for the European and Euro Atlantic integration of Ukraine, for democratic principles in the Ukrainian society what is the basis for the recovery of Crimean Tatar people rights who is coming back to its historic territory – Crimea – the part of Ukraine.
