Giorgi BARAMIDZE

Giorgi Baramidze (born in 1968, in Tbilisi, Georgia) has been serving as Vice Prime Minister of Georgia since April 2006. After graduating from the Polytechnic Institute of Georgia, Mr. Baramidze worked in the Committee of Human Rights and National Minorities, as Chief of Department.

In 1990, he took part in establishing the Georgian Green Party and is a co-founder and activist of the political committee of the Green Party.

In 1992, Giorgi Baramidze was elected to the Parliament of Georgia.

In 1995, Giorgi Baramidze graduated from the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies and Defence Economics in Garmisch, Germany. Giorgi Baramidze is co-founder of the Citizen’s Union of Georgia (CUG) and Deputy Chairman of the Union.

In 1995- 1996 he served as Acting Secretary-General of CUG.

In 1995, he was elected a Member of the Georgian Parliament.

In 1997, Mr. Baramidze initiated a Georgian Government- UNDP joint program titled the «Corruption Investigation Center», and served as the center’s first director.

In 1998-1999, Giorgi Baramidze served as a Research Associate at Georgetown University’s Institute for the Study of Diplomacy.

In 1999, Mr. Baramidze worked in the US Senate Committee on Armed Forces with Senator Carl Levin.

In 1999, he was elected to the Georgian Parliament.

In 2000, Mr. Baramidze was elected Chairman of the Defence and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia. In 2003, Mr. Giorgi Baramidze was once again elected to the Parliament of Georgia.

In 2003, he was appointed Minister of Internal Affairs.

In 2004, Mr. Baramidze was appointed Georgia’s Minister of Defense.

2005-2012 Mr. Baramidze was appointed State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.

Since 2012 till present he serves as Deputy Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia.
