Miroslav LAJČÁK

Mr. Lajčák graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Faculty of International Relations and also Commenius University Bratislava, Faculty of Law. Besides he studied and graduated from College of International and Security Studies, George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, Garmisch – Partenkirchen.

Professional Experience

Since April 4th, 2012 Mr. Lajčák is Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic. Before this he obtained such positions: Managing Director for Europe and Central Asia, European External Action Service, Brussels (December 2010– April 2012), Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (January 2009–July 2010). During 2007-2009 Mr. Lajčák was High Representative/EU Special Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo and in 2006 he was Personal Representative of EU High Representative for CFSP to facilitate the referendum on the independence of Montenegro.

In 2005–2007 Miroslav Lajčák was Director General for Political Affairs – Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bratislava and in 2005 he was Head of the Permanent Secretariat for the organization of the Summit of the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States of America in Bratislava. During 2001-2005 Mr. Lajčák was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (later Serbia and Montenegro), Republic of Albania and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. Also before this he obtained the following positions: Director of the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic (1998– 2001), Assistant to the UN Secretary General Special Envoy for the Balkans (1999- 2001), Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to Japan (1994–1998). Also Mr. Lajčák worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Bratislava Director of the Cabinet of the Minister as Director of the Cabinet of the Prime Minister of Slovakia (1993–1994). In 1991–1993 he worked in Embassy of Czechoslovakia, Moscow from January 1, 1993 Embassy of Slovakia) and in Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Czechoslovakia, Prague (1988–1991).
