Professor of economics, since 2004 Member of the European Parliament (Vice-President of the EP between 2004-2007). Vice-President of the European People's Party and Member of the Foreign Affairs and Budgets Committees. Minister for European Affairs of the Republic of Poland 1991-1996 and 2000-2001. Founder of the European Research Institute at the Łódź University and European Institute in Łódź. Laureate of the Polish R. Schuman European Award, Commander of the Polonia Resitutia Order, Chevalier of the French Honour League. Awarded the Ukrainian Merit Order. In 2001 nominated for the European of the Year Award by European Voice.
